What Can AFC Do for Fractures?

Getting hurt is a fact of life. Many injuries like minor cuts and scrapes can happen during everyday activities and usually aren’t a big deal. When a more significant accident or event happens and leaves you with the question of whether to seek medical care, the answer is easy!

Come see us for a quick exam and to meet with one of our providers. Certain injuries require proper treatment in order to heal the right way.

Our AFC Urgent Care Sevierville team explains how we can diagnose a fracture using our X-ray machine below, so read on to learn more.

What Does a Fracture Feel Like?

Your bones are working hard every day to provide your body with structure, facilitate movement and protect your vital organs. They deserve all the love they can get! In order to do all this, they need to be strong enough to withstand everyday life while also being a little flexible to absorb minor impacts.

While our bones are really good at protecting us from injury, certain forceful impacts or falls can prove to be too much pressure and your bones can break or crack. Full breaks often show physical signs of deformity, but fractures don’t always do this. If you are in significant pain, are experiencing a loss of movement or the injury site has swelled up, come see us for an X-ray.

Common Bones That We X-ray

  • Wrists
  • Ankles
  • Hips
  • Clavicle (collarbone)

How Is a Fracture Diagnosed?

When you stop in to see us, we will start with a full visual exam and our provider will ask you questions about the incident that caused the injury and your pain level. Then we take you back for a quick digital X-ray! Our center uses digital X-rays rather than the traditional version. Digital X-rays are uploaded onto a computer instead of developed on film.

This uploaded image is able to be manipulated and zoomed in on without losing quality or experiencing pixelation, which can help us pinpoint the fracture much faster. Broken bones appear as dark spaces around the otherwise white area of your bone, so the closer we can zoom in, the better chance we have of diagnosing even the smallest fracture.

Positive Benefits of Digital X-rays

  • Reduced radiation exposure
  • Clearer images
  • Fast turnaround
  • Reduced environmental impact
